Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining.

The shallow white umbrella with its highly reflective cover is often chosen for its slightly warmer tones and softer shadow transition. When the reflective cover is removed this converts into a translucent umbrella offering a choice between shoot-through and reflected use.

With Deep Translucent Umbrellas, you can add an optional translucent diffuser to deliver the effect of an indirect softbox or black diffuser (silver reflector) similar to a direct softbox.

When using the Deep Silver umbrella, the optional translucent diffuser delivers the lighting effect of an indirect softbox with any catch-light showing also the shadow of the flash head.

When using the Deep White umbrella, the optional translucent diffuser offers the lighting effect of an indirect softbox with any catchlight showing also the shadow of the flash head. The white interior will create slightly warmer and softer shadow transitions.

When using the Deep Translucent umbrella, the optional translucent diffuser offers the lighting effect of a large light dome. It can be positioned to modify any catch-light as desired.
